Uplistsikhe is an ancient pagan, political and cultural city which was founded in the еnd of 2nd – beg. 1st C BC. The place played a significant role in the history of Georgia. Since then, almost in original style have been preserved cave temples, secret hall, living rooms, royal halls and streets . When Georgia was converted to Christianity in 4thC. Uplistsikhe lost it influence. In 9-10th C. Upliststikhe was a residence for Georgian rulers . The Cave city ceased to exist in 14th C. after Ganghis Khan and then his grandson Hulagu destroyed and fired it. During excavations in 1977-1978 the scholars have found examples of gold, silver and bronze jewelry, ceramic and sculptures which are represented in Georgian National Museum .
