What is now believed to be the oldest goldmine in the world was discovered in Sakdrisi, Georgia, near its capital Tbilisi.
About 150 feet below ground level, archaeologists discovered gold mining tools and pieces of ceramic. Radio-carbon dating revealed that this discovery dates back to the Bronze Age, the 3rd millennium BC.
Comparatively, the Egyptians, practiced gold mining, but over one thousand years later, around 2600 BC.
