RTVELI HOLIDAY (ONLY IN SEPTEMBER !)
A day trip from Tbilisi will take you directly to the paradise of Wine Lovers in Kakheti region. It is the richest wine-growing and wine making region in Georgia .
The best part of any visit to Kakheti and especially participating in Rtveli Holiday is knowing that all the family or your friends will take home some great memories to share.
Rtveli is one of the most famous and perhaps the most delicious traditions of Georgia which is a land where food and wine matters a lot! It is the oldest of the grape harvesting festival traditions and is a vibrant and colorful occasion and is an important event in which locals and guests all take part.
On a tour, you’ll see all of the different aspects of the wine production process during Rtveli Holiday, including grape pressing and tasting of wine from Qvevri .
The grapes are picked from morning to evening. Traditionally the grape juice and the skins are poured into huge terracotta vessels buried in the ground known as Qvevri and left to ferment and mature in the vessels and this ancient tradition is unique to the region.
Not only wine is made from grapes harvested during the Rtvel period: Chacha is distilled from the fermentation of the grape pulp. Also, the natural Georgian sweets, pelamushi and churchkhela, are made from the boiled down grape juice.
This day we will visit local wine factory , Shumi where you will get acquainted with the process of wine producing and even with oldest tradition of wine making in Qvevri.
Then we move to the place where we can enjoy all the moments of wine making . We will pick up the grape , press it by ourselves in a special wooden vessel !
We will taste local wines and will learn how to make traditional Georgian sweet CHURCHKHELA (grape juice with walnuts) and KHACHAPURI ( bread with cheese).
And when we get tired we will taste real local lunch made of organic products !
With the tour at an end we return to our vehicle for the journey back to Tbilisi.
